Southgate to look at Rushworth?

Our colleagues at the Mirror report England boss Gareth Southgate is considering handing Carl Rushworth a shock call-up to the Three Lions' Euro 2024 squad.

Rushworth has been one of, if not the standout player for Swansea this season and has impressed since joining on loan from Premier League club Brighton.

The shot-stopper works closely with Swans coach Martyn Margetson at Fairwood, who also holds a similar position within Southgate's England set-up.

The national publication report Rushworth has shot up in the manager's thinking with so many other keepers in the senior squad struggling for game-time.

Jordan Pickford is Southgate's number one, but Aaron Ramsdale has lost his place at Arsenal, while Nick Pope and Sam Johnstone are injured.

A call-up for Rushworth would be a surprise to many, but not to Swansea supporters who have seen him turn in a number of impressive displays for his loan side.

Swans among Barron favourites

Bookmakers have placed Swansea among the favourites to sign Connor Barron this summer.

Swansea attempted to sign the midfielder back in January but a deal could not be struck so close to the deadline.

Out of contract at the end of the season, he is being tipped to leave Scottish football for a new challenge - with clubs in Serie A also keeping tabs on him. Cagliari (7/4) and Sassuolo (5/2) are currently seen as the frontrunners for his signature by the bookies.

Lee Astley, spokesman for betideas.com, said: "With Connor Barron looking likely to run down his contract with Aberdeen to its expiry in the summer, that gives a selection of European clubs the advantage of a pre-contract agreement with the Scottish midfielder.

“As such, Cagliari are the narrow 7/4 favourites to secure his signature ahead of Sassuolo (5/2), with a move to Serie A seeming his most likely destination.

“Barron could yet remain in the UK amid historical interest from Swansea City – who are 3/1 to fight off the overseas interest and bring him to the Swansea.com Stadium.”

Cabango: We want to finish strongly

Ben Cabango has urged Swansea to finish the season on a high after recording back-to-back wins in the Championship.

Swansea have struggled for consistency all term, often taking one step forward but quickly retreating. Getting six points from a possible six to all-but guarantee safety can only be seen as a positive, although serious work needs to be done this summer to ensure Swansea are more competitive.

“These games are always frustrating when you’re up against a low block,” he said.

“It’s just about being patient. Obviously the goal was a bit fortunate, but I thought we deserved the win.

“After the Cardiff game, it hasn’t been great in terms of performances, but we’ve turned it around and the two wins have been big. It's two clean sheets as well, and we’re always happy with that.

“We’ve shown we can do it back-to-back now, and we’ve just got to keep going until the end of the season. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum.

“We just need to keep doing the things we’re doing, and improve on the little things. We believe it will come together and hopefully we can end the season well."
