Swans 'to table pre-contract offer'

Our colleagues at the Daily Record report Swansea will return for Aberdeen starlet Connor Barron this summer.

Swansea made a last-ditch attempt to sign the midfielder in the January transfer window but were rebuffed. The Record state Swansea will "likely table a pre-contract offer over the coming weeks".

Barron is out of contract come the summer, however Serie A sides Sassuolo and Cagliari are also interested in snapping up the Scotland Under-21 international.

Both teams are said to have scouted the midfielder and have been impressed in what they have seen. Both sides are relying on warding off relegation from the Italian top flight in order to proceed with a move.

The Dons are still in talks with Barron over a new deal.

Ogbeta aiming high

Swansea loan man Nathanael Ogbeta says the next two to three years will be crucial to his future and says he has dreams of representing England at senior level.

Ogbeta is currently on loan with League One high-flyers Bolton Wanderers. The 22-year-old has got game-time under his belt, making 13 appearances for the Trotters to date. Opportunities were limited in SA1 and it appears his decision to leave on a temporary basis has been vindicated.

His contract is up in south Wales at the end of the season and another decision will have to be made. The player himself sees the next few years being critical.

“I feel like the next two or three years are going to be crucial to see where I end up as a player,” the Trotters’ recruit told SportsBoom.com

“In that time, I want to get as close to the Premier League as possible. With the right chance and God’s grace, I am still young and there are not that many attacking left-backs/left wing backs around. So, there is a market.

“Playing in the England age groups has put the dream in my head of playing for the senior team. Seeing how many young players I have played with who are now playing for England is inspiring. Obviously, the calibre is so high.

“But I believe in myself and I would love to play for England,” added Ogbeta, who also qualifies for Jamaica and Nigeria.

“However, as more tournaments happen and the older you get, if there are opportunities to go to the African Cup of Nations or Gold Cup or World Cup with one of these teams, it is an opportunity you can’t really pass up. We will see what happens.”

Martin wanted by Brighton

Football Transfers report Brighton are targeting Russell Martin to replace Roberto De Zerbi should the Italian move on this summer.

Martin, who left Swansea for Southampton last summer, was born in Brighton and was a member of their youth academy.

De Zerbi has been linked with big jobs in recent weeks, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich, who will both be looking for new managers at the end of the season.

The Amex club are reportedly putting building blocks in place should he move on come the summer.

Martin began his managerial career with MK Dons before getting the Swansea head coach position in the summer of 2021. He spent two seasons in south Wales before moving to St Mary's last year.

The Saints are currently fourth in the Championship standings.
