AT LAST COLOUR FOR PONTARDAWE
Pontardawe Town Council are putting up hanging baskets for the summer of 2009. The colour scheme has not yet be decided upon, but the brackets are under construction. We have kept the work for the brackets within the community in order , in some small way to alleviate the financial squeeze that everyone is now feeling.
The Town Council would also like to take over the flower beds in High Street and the one in Herbert Street, but until the Neath Port Talbot Council regeneration consultation is over we do not know if the beds will be here in the future.
The Town Council has taken over responsibility for a small stretch of the tow path, between the bridge in Herbert Street and the entrance in Holly Street, and will be keeping it tidy in the future. We have also planted daffodils along this section so we should be seeing some colour fairly soon.
Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
The Town Council has been working very closely with the newly formed Chamber of Trade and Commerce in order to bounce ideas and give support. If any trades person in the Pontardawe and District area would like to join please contact John Jones at the Kilt shop.
Trebanos Park
CCTV has been placed in Trebanos Park in order to try and stem the vandalism within the area.
The Trebanos Rugby Football Club have been kind enough to allow the equipment to be housed in their changing rooms. So far, this new addition to the Town Council armory seems to be giving the required protection to the area.
The Council will now be looking at slowly refurbishing the area in order to bring the park back to a place which can be enjoyed by both young and old.
Some new seating will be soon replacing the old and broken seats and there will also be other improvements as the time goes by.
PRECEPT FOR 2009—2010
The Town Council is very mindful of the financial pressure the majority of people are under at the present time. In order to help the population of the area, in general, it was decided not to increase the precept during 2009/10, but keep it the same as the previous year. The Town Council will be practicing good housekeeping in order to meet all its commitments.
