Comedian Maisie Adam had her followers in hysterics when she revealed the name of her great-great-grandmother. The 30-year-old stand-up made the discovery as her family were preparing for the funeral of her Nanna.

Maisie took to X, formerly Twitter, in a post that has gone viral, writing: “In true form, my Nanna’s given us one last laugh…as my Dad’s been sorting her funeral he found her Mum’s birth certificate and therefore discovered the name of HER Nanna.”

In the post Maisie attached the birth certificate which showed the name was Fanny Fudge, who was originally from west Cardiff. That’s not where the comedy ends though because Fanny Fudge was formerly Fanny Pile.

“Excuse me while I get up off the floor to catch my breath,” Maisie added. Do you have any relatives with interesting names? Let us know in the comments.

In response several people commented, including Steph McGovern, who said: “This is BRILLIANT!! There are definitely funny bones in the family,” along with laughing face emojis. Another person wrote: “Not sure which was the better name, Fanny Fudge or Fanny Pile.”

Meanwhile others shared the Fannys they’d met. “I once worked in libraries and we had a training session on genealogy: a colleague gave a presentation about her relative called Fanny Pack. Several of us were unable to maintain our composure whilst she discussed that…,” one person wrote.

Another said: “I had a Fanny Butter and a Fanny Marsh in my tree,” while a further person shared: “My grandma's best friend at school was called Fanny Fish.” You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
